Being a Saturday evening we were expecting big things from the now annual "Spit-roast Cruise"
With the evening beginning with tea at 6:30pm at Cafe B, we had quite a few people rock up for a massive feed including many plates of chips & wedges provided by some generous Touge members. Thanks to Jessie's step dad for making dinner a riot
After we had finished stuffing ourselves we headed to the cars to have, what turned out to be, an "interesting" cruise.
We moved off in an orderly fashion through Athelstone to go UP Gorge Road - normally only get to go down (nothing dirty intended) - on our way to Lobethal. We had a couple of indiscretions on they way but nothing our illustrious leaders couldn't sort out.
We had a little break in Lobethal for a chat, wee & shift of road position then moved on the "back way" to Mount Lofty Summit.
Whilst this stretch of road seemed to like holding the water it was a smooth cruise with many great tight corners & looooong sweepers. The thick fog was also hanging around making the wet even more fun. A couple of us got the unfortunate pleasure of meeting a white Honda on the way, who decided it was his night to be a TOOL!! We eventually made it to our stop & came across an interesting surprise.
Touge was not the only club to meet up here; HardTuned.com rocked up shortly after. There was also a wedding reception that was also on made car parking tight.
After watching HardTuned.com depart we made our merry way down Greenhill Road, which was a winner, as the weather had started to dry up & the roads were drying nicely.
Unfortunately the rest of the Touge crew seemed to get the unfortunate pleasure of meeting the white Honda on his way down the mountain, but his attitude had not changed & caused many a near miss, including oncoming traffic.
We all finished up at Burnside Shopping Centre for a chat with people dispersing in many different directions
With the arrival of Jason's FD RX7 track car to too far away it was desided that some practise at Mallala Motorsport Park was a must.
Modern Regularity is a timed event run by the Austin 7's club of South Australia which allows drivers to take their cars out to the track and compete against themselves. At the beginning of the day you go out on the track for a 12 - 15 minute practise session, this allows you to get a look at the track and get a feel for your car. At the end of practise you return to the pits and set a target time for session 1.

With a target time set, you now go out on track for 5 hot laps, the closer to your target time you are the better (Modern Regularity is based on consistancy, not speed so this means any car can win). For every 10th of a second you are off your target time, you get 1 penalty point so the aim is not to mess up your laps. Over a full day you get 6 sessions including your practise session so if you mess up one session you can make up for it in another.

The day itself was a good one, Jason got a good amount of practise around the track running a personal best time of 1:35.0300 and came mid-pack in the overall results.

Touge Alliance has had 3 members competing in motorkhana at Monarto this year with good results. Unfortunately only one could make it to the state championships and that was Jason in his 1985 Mazda RX7.

The weather hadn't been the best over the past few weeks but the sun was shining for motorkhana making it a pleasant day out for drivers and spectators. This event combineds the two series of motorkhana in South Australia together with people coming up from Mt Gambier to compete against Monarto competitiors. Combinding the two events means that on this day there were more class D cars (Commodores / Falcons) than any other group competing.
As all things go, there were a few troubles on the day for the top-runners which opened the doors for the less experienced drivers to show what they've got. Difficult courses were selected on the day to challenge the drivers and many cones were destroyed in the process.
With so many cones hit Jason's times were fairly average, therefor he desided to have a little more fun than usual and try to get the back end sliding out to entertain the many people who had come along for the day to support him.

Saturday August 28 dawned a cold morning as Touge Alliance members Jason Bradbrook and Jared Green met with a couple friends in the Adelaide Hills town of Kersbrook. While cold and windy it wasn’t raining which was a relief – the weather reports had been forecasting rain all week. The initial meeting was a cruise to a ‘Come and Try’ event at the Collingrove Hillclimb, one of Australia’s premier Hillclimb venues.
For those who don’t know, Hillclimb is a speed event, where one car and driver runs over a defined course against the clock. In competition cars are classified into categories so as to even out the contest and having cars of like potential performance running against each other. However, the real contest is the individual one where each driver tries on each run to improve their individual time i.e., the hill and the clock vs the car and the driver. Come and Try events like this one are an opportunity for those who have never competed at a Hillclimb to participate at low cost and minimal requirements.
